by erin suess, wyandotte
Her story:
Erin’s day job at the Detroit Media Partnership means that she handles marketing support for Signature Media, the division that publishes Strut magazine and other publications. She created this cover while working tirelessly to make our Strut Girlfriends’Night Out happen last month at the Royal Oak Music Theatre, designing the collateral and handling event planning details. She has worked at the Detroit Media Partnership (Signature’s parent company) for five years. Her specialty is mixed digital media, utilizing drawing, photography and collages. When she’s not here with us, she’s developing her freelance design, photography and art projects. These have included the traditional (wedding and band photos, invitations, marketing collateral) to the eclectic (designing friends’ tattoos).
Her philosophy:
“I like working on projects that touch people or make a difference to them personally.”
Where you’ve seen her work:
River’s Edge Gallery,Wyandotte; Fi-nite, Corktown, Detroit; Wyandotte Street Art Fair.
How she defines “legacy:”
“A personal gift, something extremely meaningful to someone that they are passing on, entrusting you to be in charge of their journeys, memories, experiences. It’s a huge undertaking.”
About the cover:
The cover is a collage of family photos from Signature Media employees, including Editor in Chief Theresa Falzone,Managing Editor Linda Lacina, Graphic Designer Erin Suess and Brand Manager Carolyn Arnold. Suess says she drew inspiration from her mom, her “Grams” and strong women.
