David versus David: Who will be the last Idol standing?

Since voting has already passed, and if he survives another round, FANS, PLEASE LET DAVID COOK WIN AMERICAN IDOL next week!

Tuesday night on Idol, the three remaining contestants, David Archuleta, David Cook and Syesha Mercado, each sang three songs. Now, as this season approaches the finale, here's why Cook should win, along with my two cents on what went down last night.

Archuleta is too old-fashioned, Mercado won't make it past tonight, and Cook is the only contestant out there every week putting his own spin on things. Archuleta seems sweet, and it warmed my heart to hear him sing Chris Brown's With You, but jeepers, even that sounded old, even if it was precious! Simon: "It was a little bit like a Chihuahua being a tiger."

From week to week, the judges' panel is consistent, and I can't remember the last time they took Archuleta off his pedestal, if ever. Randy's comments are often limited to "yo dawg" and "I dunno, it was pitchy for me." Paula generally acts like she's having an out-of-body experience and constantly shares her love for the contestants' physical appearances (sorry Paula! I'm still a fan and really loved that video you did back in the day with MC Skat Kat and Posse).

Last night, someone finally knocked the Golden Boy down a notch. Simon, thank you for calling out all of Archuleta's three performances last night (from your comments that each was predictable or gooey or something a 90-year-old would like).

Each week Archuleta remains in the competition is like another week of listening to a male character from an animated Disney film sing. The judges demand current performances, and despite his outstanding voice, the only people who vote for Archuleta, besides this guy on the left, are young girls and their grandmothers, according to Simon.

As for Mercado: Even if she sounds like she's in a cabaret, as Cowell described her second performance of last night, any mistake or unhip moment on her part pales in comparison to the image stuck in my head of Archuleta singing as Aladdin. Syesha deserves to be in the finals, but since that most likely won't happen, PLEASE LET DAVID COOK WIN AMERICAN IDOL! 

So here goes. Since the finals will come down to David versus David, please, if there is any justice, vote for Cook to win. He's the freshest contestant on the show and oozes originality. His performances are rarely uninteresting or bad vocally (OK, maybe I can see Randy's pitch point).

With all that said, my prediction for the final week is that the Davids will face off, and David Cook will (PLEASE, AMERICA) be the last Idol standing.
