More Ways to Go Green this Weekend
With all the events this weekend—Rothbury, Comerica Cityfest, fireworks, heck, even the Jonas Brothers are coming—I’ve got two more to add to your calendar, and they’re green-friendly!
National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, July 5-12.
Enjoy over 150 events (85% are free): wine tasting, cherry BBQ cook-offs, air shows from the U.S. Navy, a WAR concert, a kite boarding competition, dancing to Latin music, meeting Miss America (With such an array of events, I think I could throw in bear racing and cherry-scented fireworks and no one would be surprised). Did I mention cherries will be everywhere?
Plus, this year the Cherry Festival is going green by recycling, offering a Cherry TART Tour where you can bike around Traverse City, and holding a “River Clean-Up” on the Boardman River.
Recycle + Freecycle in Dearborn, July 5
It’s like a giant garage sale/summer cleaning event where anything you bring is given away for free from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Celebrate 4th of July weekend with a bang by pitching that giant moose head and pottery pieces from 5th grade (someone might want them). You can also buy recycled materials like drinking tumblers made from Red Stripe and Faygo bottles. Who knew? Located at the Glass Academy, 25331 Trowbridge, Dearborn. Call 313-561-4527.
