Where: Stables Studio, Heritage Park, Farmington Hills
Capture spring images in Heritage Park, and learn how to use the
seven points of focus/framing, control depth of field, look at light,
and study how it moves and changes color. Reflectors will be used
to enhance natural light. Be sure to dress for the outdoors,
and bring a 35mm or digital camera.

Huron-Clinton Metroparks
Start: 10:00 am

Where: the 13 Metroparks in southeast Michigan

Socialize, exercise and gain experience while lending a hand at the parks, especially at the nature centers and golf courses. Volunteers who reach a designated number of hours receive a Metroparks annual permit, free use of some facilities and an invitation to recognition dinners in the parks. Volunteer for a single project or on an ongoing bais.

Holy Hip-Hop! New Paintings by Alex Melamid

Where: Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, 4454 Woodward Ave., Detroit

The exhibition features life-size portraits by Russian-born American painter Alexander Melamid of hip-hop icons, such as Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Kanye West, among others.

Barbie: Dolls Empowering Generations of Girls
Start: 1:00 pm

Where: Birmingham Historical Museum and Park, 556 W. Maple Rd., Birmingham

This exhibition presents the social history of the Barbie doll, as well as trivia about her. Dearborn collector Helen Mamalakis shares her Barbie collection. The exhibit includes one of the earliest dolls from 1961, to illustrate the evolution of one of America’s most popular toys.

SCORE Writing a Winning Business Plan

Experts from SCORE, an organization of professionals who volunteer to help aspiring business
owners realize their dreams of creating or developing a business, will walk you
through writing a business plan, from research tips to crunching the numbers. If you have already started a business plan, feel free to bring it along. Pre-registration is required.

Art Van Spring Design Classes
Start: 6:30 pm

Where: 6500 E. 14 Mile Rd., Warren

Art Van will host design classes to help participants make the most of their design projects. Participants may register for the four-part series or stop by the class of their interest. Topics include: Determining Your Style (Week 1);  The Impact of Color (Week 2);  Furniture Placement (Week 3); and Accessorizing (Week 4). The Kids Castle also will be open, and it offers a free, supervised play area for children.
