Capture spring images in Heritage Park, and learn how to use the
seven points of focus/framing, control depth of field, look at light,
and study how it moves and changes color. Reflectors will be used
to enhance natural light. Be sure to dress for the outdoors,
and bring a 35mm or digital camera.

An Orthodox mother of 12 flees her abusive
husband and is barred from seeing her children.
She forms a women’s minyan to sit in judgment
of her right to see her children.

Huron-Clinton Metroparks
Start: 10:00 am

Where: the 13 Metroparks in southeast Michigan

Socialize, exercise and gain experience while lending a hand at the parks, especially at the nature centers and golf courses. Volunteers who reach a designated number of hours receive a Metroparks annual permit, free use of some facilities and an invitation to recognition dinners in the parks. Volunteer for a single project or on an ongoing bais.

Holy Hip-Hop! New Paintings by Alex Melamid

Where: Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, 4454 Woodward Ave., Detroit

The exhibition features life-size portraits by Russian-born American painter Alexander Melamid of hip-hop icons, such as Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Kanye West, among others.

Barbie: Dolls Empowering Generations of Girls
Start: 1:00 pm

Where: Birmingham Historical Museum and Park, 556 W. Maple Rd., Birmingham

This exhibition presents the social history of the Barbie doll, as well as trivia about her. Dearborn collector Helen Mamalakis shares her Barbie collection. The exhibit includes one of the earliest dolls from 1961, to illustrate the evolution of one of America’s most popular toys.

Bookstock Used Book & Media Sale
Start: 12:00 pm

Where: Laurel Park Place mall, 37770 Six Mile Rd., Livonia

Shoppers and collectors may get the first look at the Bookstock Used Book & Media Sale Pre-Sale at 8:45-11:45 a.m. on April 6. Books will be sold for half-price on April 13. Bookstock carries donated used books, DVDs, CDs, books on tape, magazines and records, and all proceeds will benefit literacy and education projects in metro Detroit.

Cost: Pre-sale, $10; free during regular sale.

Glass-Blowing Demonstration
Start: 1:00 pm

Where: Michigan Hot Glass Workshop, 1604 Clay Ave., 2nd floor, Detroit

Learn about the art of glass blowing, and see a demonstration at Michigan Hot Glass Workshop, a studio located at the Russell Industrial Center. Snacks and beverages will be provided. A bus to transport participants to and from Michigan Hot Glass leaves at 12:15 p.m. from the parking lot behind the St. Clair Shores Public Library, 22500 11 Mile Rd. in St. Clair Shores.

Cost: $10; tickets must be purchased before 9 p.m. on April 2
