Where: the 13 Metroparks in southeast Michigan Socialize, exercise and gain experience while lending a hand at the parks, especially at the nature centers and golf courses. Volunteers who reach a designated number of hours receive a Metroparks annual permit, free use of some facilities and an invitation to recognition dinners in the parks. Where: Birmingham Historical Museum and Park, 556 W. Maple Rd., Birmingham This exhibition presents the social history of the Barbie doll, as well as trivia about her. Dearborn collector Helen Mamalakis shares her Barbie collection. The exhibit includes one of the earliest dolls from 1961, to illustrate the evolution of one of America’s most popular toys. Books will be sold for half-price on April 13. Bookstock carries donated used books, DVDs, CDs, books on tape, magazines and records, and all proceeds will benefit literacy and education projects in metro Detroit.
