Where: The 13 Metroparks in southeast Michigan Socialize, exercise and gain experience while lending a hand at the parks, especially at the nature centers and golf courses. Where: Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit The exhibition will explore the Ashcan school’s celebration of vibrant and diverse leisure activities through nearly 80 of their most significant canvases. The Ashcan school artists depicted the lower levels of the socio-economic scale, the raw, unvarnished people who lived and toiled in New York during the turn of the 20th century. While this material represents one aspect of these artists’ oeuvre, it’s not representative of the entire spectrum of their work.
