Huron-Clinton Metroparks

Where: The 13 Metroparks in southeast Michigan

Socialize, exercise and gain experience while lending a hand at the parks, especially at the nature centers and golf courses. Volunteers who reach a designated number of hours receive a Metroparks annual permit, free use of some facilities, and an invitation to recognition dinners in the parks. Volunteer for a single project or on an ongoing basis.

2008 MS Longest Day of Golf

Where: More than 40 courses across the state (half in metro Detroit)

Register to golf all day at participating courses that will waive greens fees for the day, allowing registered golfers to raise $315,000 for the National MS Society.

Cost: $125 minimum per golfer; cart fees might apply

Mount Clemens Spring Art & Craft Show
Start: 10:00 am
End: 6:00 pm


Where: Macomb Place between Main and Pine streets, Mount Clemens

More than 45 fine-art crafters will display original works, including paintings, glass, textiles and jewelry. There will be live lunchtime entertainment Friday.

Mademoiselle Mondays

Where: The Belmont, 10215 Joseph Campau St., Hamtramck

Gather your girls for a martini and manicure, $10, or skip the martini and get a manicure for $5. Guest DJs and bands will perform each week.

Growing Pretty
Start: 3:00 pm

Where: The Purple Rose Theatre Company, 137 Park St., Chelsea

Playwright Carey Crim’s Growing Pretty follows Lucy Keen as she deals with her quirky family, having a boy for a best friend, love and self-image. Lucy discovers that the rocky road of being 12 soon transforms into the freedoms of adulthood as she attempts to become an artist.

Open City Detroit

Interested in starting a new business in Detroit? Join this group for aspiring and existing businesses for motivation and mentorship.

Meets the third Tuesday of each month.

Kayaking Classes
Start: 7:00 pm
End: 8:30 pm

Where: Arthurs Middle School pool, 4000 Marian Drive, Trenton

Learn basic kayaking skills in the beginner class (gear provided), or the fundamentals of rolling a capsized kayak in the second class. Bring water clothing and shoes, nose plugs, a towel and an extra set of clothing. Class size is limited; maximum student/instructor ratio in the basic class is 4:1, and 2:1 in the roll class.
