The Ashcan school artists depicted the lower levels of the socio-economic scale, the raw, unvarnished people who lived and toiled in New York during the turn of the 20th century. While this material represents one aspect of these artists’ oeuvre, it’s not representative of the entire spectrum of their work. The exhibition, the first in a series, aims to document the recent history of the region’s art, according to MOCAD.
